Common questions
Can I use Altair for a client?
Yes. One license covers one website, either your own or one you build for a client. Buy one license per site.
Can I remove the “Built with Altair” credit?
Yes. It’s in src/components/sections/Footer.astro. We appreciate it if you keep it, but you don’t have to.
Do I need to know Astro?
No. For normal use you only edit text, Markdown and YAML files. If you want to change the design, Astro components are mostly HTML and CSS, and the Astro docs are excellent.
Can I add more pages?
Yes. Any .astro file in src/pages/ becomes a page: src/pages/uses.astro is published at /uses/. Start from this, which reuses the header, footer and the blog’s reading styles:
---
import Base from '../layouts/Base.astro';
import Header from '../components/sections/Header.astro';
import Footer from '../components/sections/Footer.astro';
import { getNav } from '../lib/nav';
---
<Base title="Uses — Noa Ferris" description="The tools and gear I use every day.">
<Header links={await getNav()} />
<main id="main" class="prose" style="padding-block: 4rem">
<h1>Uses</h1>
<p>Your content here.</p>
</main>
<Footer />
</Base>
Then add it to the menu, as described in Sections.
Does Altair have a contact form?
The contact section uses your email address, with a one-click copy button, which needs no extra service. To add a form, use a form service such as Web3Forms, Formspree or Netlify Forms and add its HTML to src/components/sections/Contact.astro.
Does it work without JavaScript?
Yes. Everything is readable and every link works. JavaScript only adds the live clock, the theme toggle and the copy button.
Troubleshooting
npm install fails, or Astro says the Node version is too old
Altair needs Node.js 22.12 or newer. Check with node -v, and install the current LTS version from nodejs.org if needed.
The build stops with an error about a field
Your content doesn’t match the expected fields. The message names the file and the field, for example a project without a year. Check the tables in Projects and lists and Blog.
“Could not find” an image
Image paths in Markdown are relative to the Markdown file. From a project file in src/content/projects/, a cover in src/assets/work/ is ../../assets/work/cover.jpg.
A new project, post or list item doesn’t appear
Stop npm run dev with Ctrl+C and start it again. Also check that it isn’t marked draft: true.
The clock shows the wrong time
Set timeZone in site.config.ts to your IANA time zone name, for example 'Asia/Kolkata' or 'America/Los_Angeles'.
Share cards show the old image
Social networks cache share images. Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger or the LinkedIn Post Inspector to refresh them.
Support
Your license includes six months of support. Email support@tortoizthemes.com with:
- your order number
- what you expected and what happened instead
- any error message, and your Node.js version (
node -v)
We usually reply within one or two working days. Support covers using and setting up the theme and fixing bugs. It doesn’t cover custom design or development work, but get in touch if you need that.
