Altair docs
SEO and sharing
What Altair does for search engines and social sharing out of the box, and the few things you should set yourself.
Altair handles the technical side of SEO for you. Your part is the domain, good descriptions and a share image.
Set these before you launch
- Your domain. Set
siteinastro.config.mjs, for examplehttps://yourname.com. Canonical URLs, the sitemap, robots.txt, the RSS feed and share cards all use it. - Title and description. Set
site.titleandsite.descriptioninsrc/site.config.ts. The description is what most people see in search results, so write it for them. - Share image. Replace
public/share.pngwith your own 1200×630 image. It appears when the site is shared on social networks and messaging apps. - Favicon. Replace
public/favicon.svg.
What Altair does automatically
- A canonical URL on every page, so search engines know the main address of each page.
- Open Graph and Twitter Card tags for good-looking links when shared.
- Structured data: a
Personon the home page, with your name, role, location and profiles, and aBlogPostingon every post. - A sitemap at
/sitemap-index.xml, which includes every page and post. - A
robots.txtthat points to the sitemap. - An RSS feed at
/rss.xml, linked from every page so feed readers find it. - Semantic HTML with one
h1per page, real headings, labelled navigation and image descriptions. - Fast pages. Speed affects ranking, and Altair is built to score 100 on Lighthouse.
Blog posts
Each post uses its title and description for search results and share cards. A photo cover (JPG, PNG or WebP) becomes the post’s share image; otherwise the site’s share image is used.
Search Console
After launching, add your site to Google Search Console and submit https://yourname.com/sitemap-index.xml. Google will then crawl new pages and posts sooner, and show you which searches bring people to your site.
Social profiles
The socials links in site.config.ts are added to your structured data as sameAs, which helps search engines connect your profiles to your site. Use the full profile URLs.
